Mediatization (2025)
Interactive Sound Installation

Description

In this era of the rapid rise of AI, these tools are gradually entering every corner of our lives. Beyond being just tools, AI has also become something we increasingly rely on. In the future, the way we explore the world may no longer come from direct, tangible encounters, but through AI; the standards by which we judge things may no longer be cultivated from our own experiences, but shaped by AI. Fewer and fewer people will be able to think independently and explore reality, while technology will become the constructor of knowledge and standards, dominating the world and even being regarded as truth itself.

In this piece, different layers of sound coexist. When there is no audience interaction, hundreds of thousands of AI-generated sound clips are randomly assigned to speakers in the room, creating a chaotic sonic sphere. It is just like AI were everywhere, present in every aspect of our daily life, mediating information. Once the audience begins interacting by speaking into the microphone, the AI system responds and initiates a dialogue through all the speakers simultaneously, with the voice that feels both sacred and unquestionable. The voice from the AI will be saved to the audio database after the interaction, and the interaction itself also shows how people would interactive with the AI system.

This piece does not aim to offer solutions for the coming mediated world; rather, it seeks to provoke in the audience a heightened sense of critical awareness toward new technologies, so that they are not entirely consumed by the tools themselves.
